Is MicroCotton towel better than Egyptian or Turkish cotton towels?
Well, if you guessed MicroCotton towels or Turkish towels you’re wrong😉
Because MicroCotton towels have a completely different appearance and characteristics although it is made by 100 % cotton yarn like Egyptian or Turkish cotton towels. So, We can not easily compare them.
First, do not mix microfiber(synthetic ones) towels and Microcotton towels!
Step by step let me explain to you the main differences between Microcotton towels and traditional towels.
How Is MicroCotton Towel Produced?
MicroCotton towel is produced in the same process as all weaving towels.
The only difference between MicroCotton Towels and Egyptian or Turkish cotton towels in production that is the Cotton yarn which is the basic raw material for all towels.
MicroCotton towels are weaved by a zero-twist cotton yarn pile. On the contrary, other towels are weaved by a twisted yarn pile.
There is also another towel which is called ”soft-twist or low-twist towels” is not a MicroCotton towel. Their pile yarn is a ring or combed yarn but has low twist than an ordinary towel. That’s why soft-twist towels have a fluffy appearance and soft touches like MicroCotton towels.
But do not mix MicroCotton towel and Soft-twist towels. They are completely different towels.
What Is Zero Twist Cotton Yarns?
Zero twist cotton yarns ( Cotton+PVA) recently became more popular in luxurious towels and bathrobes because of their softness and fluffy pile appearance.
How is Zero-twist cotton yarn Produced?
A cotton yarn is produced in Ring spinning machine or Rotor( open-end) spinning machines. Pile yarns can be twisted many times between 500 and 600 per meter in Z-twist direction. As a result, all cotton yarns must be twisted during the production. Otherwise, the cotton fibers are dispersed during the weaving process.
Less twisted the pile loops, the softer and more absorbent the towel in traditional towels.
Micro Cotton towels are made by a different spinning process from traditional yarns. As a result, the pile yarns remains untwisted
So, How is it possible to weave towels with untwisted (Zero-twist) pile yarns?
Here is the great solution, that yarn innovation is a great revolution in the towel weaving.
There is a Synthetic yarn which is called PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) It is a water-soluble synthetic polymer.
A twisted cotton pile yarn is doubled with a PVA yarn. Then, the doubled yarns are twisted in opposite direction(S-twist). The opposite twist number is the same twist number as the original cotton yarn so the cotton yarn becomes zero-twist yarn.
PVA yarn covers the cotton yarn(untwisted pile) to reinforce the weaving process. Otherwise, it is not possible to weave towels with zero-twist yarns.
On the other hand, the sizing process is not necessary for Cotton/PVA yarn for the towels that is under 450 GSM. Sizing is required to reinforce the yarns because yarns are exposed to friction during weaving.
After weaving the MicroCotton towels, the PVA yarn is eliminated by water during the dying process so the cotton yarn is being twistless. We call also this yarns; Twistless Cotton, Zero Twist cotton or air cotton
See the above pictures. 1st picture is zero twist pile which have more absorbent and fluffy appearance. 2nd picture is the twisted pile which is less soft-touch then the zero twist towels.
What are the main advantages of MicroCotton towels?
Zero Twist or MicroCotton towels have a soft-touch quality and fluffy appearance.
The thickness of twistless towels is higher. This is shown that twistless towels are more bulky and softer than that of normal towels. It offers a thick and luxurious towel ambiances.
You may concern about their durability. Their useful life is enough long both for homes and industrial products like the hotel and hospital towels.
Abrasion resistance of twistless towels is lower in comparison to that of normal towels. So it must be dried in low tumble dry.
Pile pulling force of twist-less towels is lower than that of normal twist towels.
Properties relating to water absorbency in terms of rate of water absorption, ie, sinking time, capacity to absorb water in terms of water retention and surface water absorption are better in twistless towels than that of normal towels.
What is the best GSM for MicroCotton towels?
it is possible to produce Zero-twist towels up to 600-650 gsm.
But! ıf you want to buy an economic MicroCotton Towels, we developed 360 gsm MicroCotton towels. It looks well, ı think 350-360 gsm is the lowest limits.

Here are the reviews of Amazon users; Click here to see more…
I order from Amazon all the time and have for years, yet this is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review. How wonderful could towels be? These are the softest, fluffiest, thickest, most absorbent towels I have ever purchased. I never knew towels could feel like a blanket and still be absorbent enough to be a towel. They are pretty, too. The only complaint I could voice is that they left a lot of lint in my dryer’s lint catcher after the first wash, but that’s it! Highly recommend.
Another Amazon users review is below;
Yes, that’s what I’ve been looking for. Very soft, fluffy, thick, elegant, hardly could shove into my drawers🤗
Here is the review of target customers about Zero-twist towels
I purchased a set over 5 years ago and even after daily usage and hundreds of washings they are still like new. So I searched for another set and found these, but they are not exactly the same. They are great quality, but seem less absorbent than the first set.
Note-1: Yarn dyed towels cannot produce from zero twist yarns. Actually, it is possible by fiber dying but it is really to the much expensive process for a towel.
